I am a priest in Kenya working among the poorest of the poor. The area I serve, Mogotio in Baringo County, is arid. Most of the inhabitants are sheep or cattle farmers earning less than a dollar a day. For the last three years we have had severe drought. Some people, especially children, have died and their cattle have died which is their main livelihood.
My focus has been education of girls who is most affected by outdated cultural practices. The community here still practices immoral and outdated cultural practices like female genital mutilation, early marriages, cattle raids, wife inheritance and infighting among tribes. Through education we will break the circle of poverty and these immoral cultural practices. This is an ongoing initiative. I also provide food, water, and medical care on a regular basis to those affected by hunger and thirst due to perennial drought. My work involves bringing the presence of Christ to those who need it most in fulfilment of Jesus' invitation to do works of mercy. (Mt 25:31-46).
I am indeed grateful that you consider donating to our mission.
